The Winter Soldier is a Marvel character primarily known from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). He is a brainwashed assassin with a cybernetic arm.
The character is James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, Steve Rogers' childhood best friend. Presumed dead during World War II, Bucky was captured and experimented upon by HYDRA. He was then brainwashed and trained as a highly effective operative for the organization.
In the MCU, the Winter Soldier first appears, portrayed by Sebastian Stan, in the movie *Captain America: The Winter Soldier* (2014). He served as a major antagonist in that film and subsequently became an anti-hero, struggling to overcome his past programming.
As the Winter Soldier, Bucky possessed enhanced strength, agility, and reflexes. His metal arm granted him even greater physical power and capabilities. He is a master marksman and hand-to-hand combatant, making him a formidable adversary.
